Pro-Ject Signature 10 Turntable

Special Order. Available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada, the Pro-Ject Signature 10 is a no-compromise high-end belt-drive turntable that simultaneously applies mass-loading and magnetic suspension principles — a combination rarely seen at any price, and a testament to Pro-Ject's engineering depth. At 23kg with a 10.4kg TPE-damped platter running on a magnetically decoupled inverted ceramic bearing, the Signature 10 is built to eliminate every known source of noise and resonance between the groove and the phono stage. It includes Pro-Ject's own 10" single-pivot tonearm, balanced 5-pin DIN phono output, and electronic speed change between 33 and 45rpm.

Mass Loading + Magnetic Suspension — Both, Not Either

Most high-end turntables choose one approach to vibration isolation: mass loading (heavy plinth, heavy platter, inertial stability) or suspension (sprung sub-chassis, compliant feet). The Signature 10 applies both. The main plinth is filled with steel pellets at its central gravity point — the same approach used in Pro-Ject's Xtension and RPM 9/10 Carbon range — drawing resonance to a single node and dissipating it through the pellets' dispersion effect, without the single resonant frequency of a solid alloy insert. The plinth then sits on opposing-magnetic isolation feet that float the entire mass above whatever surface the table rests on. The aluminum sub-chassis is further decoupled from the plinth by TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) pillows, and the platter itself is magnetically decoupled from the main bearing. The result is a four-stage mechanical isolation system — plinth-to-surface, sub-chassis-to-plinth, bearing-to-sub-chassis, and platter-to-bearing — each addressed with a different engineering approach.

10.4kg Platter on Inverted Ceramic Bearing

The Signature 10's platter is precision-machined from aluminium alloy and damped throughout with TPE — achieving near-zero resonance. At 10.4kg, its rotational inertia provides exceptional speed stability without any electronic assist beyond the precision generator motor control. The platter spins on an inverted ceramic ball-and-plate bearing that is also magnetically decoupled — the magnetic force reduces the effective weight bearing on the ceramic ball to near zero, eliminating friction-generated noise and bearing rumble at the source.

10" Single-Pivot Tonearm — Pro-Ject's Own Design

The Signature 10 tonearm is a genuine Pro-Ject design — not a re-badged third-party arm — featuring a 10" (254.8mm effective length) single-pivot geometry in an aluminium tube. Its 15.5g effective mass suits medium-to-high compliance MC cartridges, and the arm ships with an array of counterweights allowing virtually any cartridge weight to be accommodated. A 16mm overhang is set at the factory.

Balanced Output — True Reference Operation

The Signature 10 ships with a standard DIN-to-RCA phono cable for immediate unbalanced use, but its 5-pin DIN output supports full balanced operation via optional DIN-to-XLR or DIN-to-mini-XLR cables and a balanced phono stage. In balanced mode, common-mode noise picked up along the cable run is cancelled at the phono stage input — providing a meaningfully lower noise floor and improved channel separation. Contact Vinyl Sound Toronto for balanced cable and phono stage recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Pro-Ject Signature 10 and the Xtension 10 Evolution?

Both use the same steel-pellet plinth and magnetic isolation feet, but the Signature 10 goes further: it adds TPE-pillow sub-chassis decoupling, a heavier 10.4kg platter (vs the Xtension's lighter platter), magnetic platter bearing decoupling, and Pro-Ject's own Signature 10 single-pivot tonearm rather than the EVO 9/10 family arms. The Signature 10 represents a higher tier of isolation and platter mass than the Xtension Evolution range.

What cartridges are compatible with the Pro-Ject Signature 10 tonearm?

The Signature 10 tonearm has a 15.5g effective mass, placing it in the medium-to-high mass category. It pairs optimally with MC cartridges of low-to-medium compliance (8–16µm/mN), such as those from Ortofon, Lyra, Benz Micro, and similar brands. The included counterweight set accommodates virtually any cartridge weight in the standard range. Contact Vinyl Sound Toronto for specific cartridge pairing advice.

Does the Pro-Ject Signature 10 come with a cartridge?

No. The Signature 10 is sold without a cartridge. Contact Vinyl Sound Toronto for expert cartridge recommendations matched to the 10" single-pivot arm's 15.5g effective mass and your phono stage.

How does balanced operation work on the Pro-Ject Signature 10?

The Signature 10's 5-pin DIN output carries a fully balanced phono signal. To use it in balanced mode you need a DIN-to-XLR (or DIN-to-mini-XLR) phono cable, an MC cartridge, and a phono stage with balanced XLR inputs. In balanced mode, any noise introduced along the cable run appears equally on both conductors and is cancelled at the phono stage — lowering the noise floor and improving channel separation versus unbalanced RCA operation.
