The Quad Revela 1 is a two-way bass-reflex bookshelf and stand-mount monitor from Quad (Huntingdon, England, UK), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Developed alongside the Revela 2 floorstander over more than four years under the direction of Peter Comeau, Quad's Director of Acoustic Design, the Revela 1 pairs a 27 x 60 mm True Ribbon tweeter with a single 165 mm Reveal advanced fibre woofer in a 17.6-litre bass-reflex enclosure, delivering a frequency response of 54 Hz to 24 kHz (+/-3 dB) with bass extension to 40 Hz at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 86 dB and peak power handling is 120 watts. Available in hand-finished Piano Walnut or Piano Black, with an optional custom-engineered matching stand, the Revela 1 brings ribbon high-frequency resolution to listeners seeking what Quad describes as the closest approach to the original sound.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Quad Revela 1?
A: The Quad Revela 1 is a two-way bass-reflex bookshelf and stand-mount monitor from Quad (Huntingdon, UK), featuring a 27 x 60 mm True Ribbon tweeter and a 165 mm Reveal advanced fibre woofer. Frequency response is 54 Hz to 24 kHz (+/-3 dB) with bass extension to 40 Hz at -6 dB, sensitivity is 86 dB, and peak power handling is 120 watts into a 6-ohm nominal impedance. The Revela 1 is sold as a pair in Piano Walnut or Piano Black and is available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada, with an optional matching stand.

Q: What amplifier does the Quad Revela 1 need?
A: The Revela 1 is compatible with amplifiers rated from 30 to 120 watts. Nominal impedance is 6 ohms with a minimum of 4.1 ohms, so the amplifier should be stable into loads approaching 4 ohms for reliable performance at high output levels. The 86 dB sensitivity suits a quality stand-mount monitor in small to medium rooms, and integrated amplifiers from 30 watts upward will drive the Revela 1 to satisfying levels. The team at Vinyl Sound Toronto can advise on compatible pairings across a range of budgets.

Q: What is a True Ribbon tweeter?
A: A True Ribbon tweeter passes the audio signal directly through a thin corrugated metallic diaphragm suspended in a magnetic field, so the diaphragm itself is both the conductor and the radiating surface. The ribbon element's extremely low mass lets it respond to high-frequency transients with speed, low distortion, and a smooth tonal character. The Revela 1's 27 x 60 mm True Ribbon is the product of over four years of research by Peter Comeau, Quad's Director of Acoustic Design.

Q: Does the Quad Revela 1 need a stand?
A: The Revela 1 can be used as either a bookshelf speaker or a stand-mounted monitor and includes rubber feet for bookshelf placement. For stand-mount use, Quad offers a custom-engineered matching stand finished to the same high-gloss standard as the Revela 1 cabinet, providing the ideal mounting height for the True Ribbon tweeter. Stand-mount placement generally gives the best stereo imaging and bass integration, particularly when the rear-facing port has space to breathe. The optional stand is available through Vinyl Sound Toronto.

Q: How does the Quad Revela 1 compare to the Revela 2 floorstander?
A: The Revela 1 and Revela 2 share the same True Ribbon tweeter, Reveal advanced fibre driver technology, Acoustic Butterworth crossover design philosophy, and hand-finished cabinet standards. The Revela 2 adds a dedicated 150 mm Reveal midrange driver and a second 165 mm woofer in a three-way configuration, extends bass to 35 Hz at -6 dB versus 40 Hz for the Revela 1, raises sensitivity from 86 dB to 89 dB, and increases peak power handling from 120 watts to 200 watts. The Revela 2 suits larger rooms and higher listening levels, while the Revela 1 is the more space-efficient choice for small to medium rooms or secondary listening spaces.
