Technics Master Edition Direct Drive Turntable System - SL-1200GME - Silver

Description

The culmination of a legend.

Commemorating Technics' 60th anniversary and continuing the legacy of precision. The final version of the beloved SL-1200G / 1210G series has been transformed into a Master Edition, incorporating all the innovations from the last decade of Technics’ expertise — from the new delta-sigma drive system, to the latest multi-stage silent power supply.

This limited version represents the pinnacle of the SL-1200 series, featuring a special gold design and available worldwide in Silver: 1,200 units / Black: 1,210 units—each a standout in the SL-1200 legacy.

Due to the discontinuation of certain externally sourced components, Technics will unfortunately end production of the SL-1200/1210G model by the end of this year. This model is the final version of the SL-1200G. Other SL-1200 models, including the SL-1200/1210GR2 and SL-1200/1210MK7, will continue to be produced.

  • New twin-rotor coreless direct drive motor achieving stable rotation
  • ΔΣ-Drive suppresses vibrations from the motor for smoother, more accurate rotation
  • Anti-vibration structure with a three-layer platter and a four-layer cabinet construction
  • High-damping silicon insulators using αGEL™
  • Magnesium tonearm achieving high initial motion sensitivity
  • Low-noise, low-voltage power circuit and a switching power supply
  • Cartridge not included

State-of-the-Art Drive Technology

Coreless Direct Drive Motor Achieving Stable Rotation

The SL-1200GME-S features a coreless direct-drive motor that eliminates cogging for smooth rotation. Its twin-rotor construction maintains high torque while reducing bearing load and minute vibrations. For the Master Edition, this motor type has been thoroughly reworked by a reinforced stator board with non-magnetic screws, further reducing minute vibrations in order to efficiently smoothen the sensitive tracking process. The coil mounting base uses the same reinforcement pattern as the Reference Class SL-1000R/SP-10R for enhanced rigidity.

Upgraded ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive)

Unlock a realm of audio precision with the ΔΣ-Drive – a state-of-the-art system harnessing Technics’ expertise in PWM signal processing. The SL 1200GME/1210GME expands the PWM carrier frequency from around 2 kHz to over 20 kHz, reducing audible noise and further suppressing micro-vibrations.

Hybrid Encoder for Rotational Speed Detection

Last but not least, a Hybrid Encoder for Rotational Speed Detection, using a Hall Sensor for Rotor Position Detection, meticulously keeps the rotation speed stable — even with external influences such as warped vinyl discs — ensuring a rock-solid pitch with even the most critical natural instruments such a piano or a violin.

Vibration Resistant Design

Three-layered Turntable Platter

In the Master Edition, all electronical motor drive techniques are combined with the top class mechanical product engineering that makes the “G” model valuable and desirable. The turntable has a three-layered construction with a rigidly combined brass and aluminium die-cast platter. With a deadening rubber covering its entire rear surface to eliminate unnecessary resonance, thereby achieving high rigidity and vibration damping. This delivers smooth rotational stability and inertial mass surpassing the SP-10MK2, the direct-drive turntable standard used by broadcast stations worldwide, as well as having more than twice the inertial mass of the SL-1200MK5.

High-Level Balance Adjustment

When the weight distribution of the turntable is uneven, excess vibration or noise occurs during rotation, which causes degradation in sound quality. Therefore, the balance of the turntable is adjusted at the factory by using specialized high-precision balance adjustment equipment for each and every item after the turntable is assembled. Turntables that have undergone adjustment are labelled with a sticker reading "BALANCED" to indicate that adjustment has been done.

Four-Layered Cabinet Construction

A hairline-processed, 10-mm-thick top panel of immaculate aluminum has been added to the previous three-layered construction of aluminum die-cast, BMC, and heavyweight-class rubber on the SL-1200MK5. This four-layered construction combines high rigidity with a high-quality finish and feel.

Insulator

A newly developed zinc insulator using αGEL™ gelatinous material with excellent shock absorption, providing high vibration damping and minimizing feedback.

Tonearm

The tonearm uses lightweight magnesium with cold drawing for high precision. High initial-motion sensitivity is achieved through Technics’ gimbal suspension construction and high-precision bearings.

Multi-Stage Silent Power Supply

The SL-1200GME/SL-1210GME features the Multi-Stage Silent Power Supply, integrating a low-noise switching circuit and a noise-cancelling circuit — like the one used in our reference turntable SL-1000R.

Eco-friendly Cushioning/Packaging Materials

The SL-1200GME/1210GME adopts eco-friendly packaging materials to help curtail marine plastics and other environmental problems. The cushioning has been changed from styrene foam to corrugated cardboard, reducing the amount of plastic used by around 70% compared to existing product packaging. We have also taken steps to improve convenience by combining accessories into one box while maintaining the strength of the cushioning to protect against the product’s heavy weight.
