Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 800.2 Integrated Amplifier
The original Nu-Vista 800 enjoyed years of popularity as a high-end hybrid integrated amplifier, but when its original "retro look" display was discontinued at short notice, Musical Fidelity chose to rework it into the Nu-Vista 800.2 rather than discontinue the model — keeping the original audio formula as unchanged as possible while modernizing the parts around it. It's a work of audio art built on Musical Fidelity's Nu-Vista circuitry, delivering more than 300W per channel with unconditional stability and the ability to drive any loudspeaker. Sits above the Nu-Vista 600.2 as the flagship of the Nu-Vista range. As an authorized Musical Fidelity dealer in Toronto, Canada, Vinyl Sound can help you match this amplifier to your speakers and sources.

TITAN Heritage
Originally designed in 2013 to revive the discontinued Nu-Vista family, the 800 was the first Musical Fidelity amp to feature a locally decoupled output stage since the TITAN. Giving each output transistor its own high-current bulk supply capacitor allows more immediate access to stored energy through a lower-impedance path, improving transient response and ripple filtering at higher currents — the layout of these capacitors gives the power amp PCB a "V10" engine appearance. Main supply capacitors sit right on the rectifiers, reducing supply impedance and keeping rectification and hum noise away from the high-gain power amp circuit.
From Nu-Vista 800 to 800.2
When the original retro-look display went out of production, Musical Fidelity redesigned the front panel and display to match the current Nu-Vista range, which in turn required updating the power supply and on/off control circuitry — a change that also made it possible to add the previously missing remote on/standby function. The transformers were rewound for lower standing flux and reduced sensitivity to mains DC offset noise, resulting in a slightly larger and heavier transformer that still fits the original casework. The result keeps the original's audio parameters intact while improving them in certain areas.
Nuvistor Tubes
Nuvistor tubes were invented in the 1950s to solve the shortcomings of conventional tubes, offering high reliability, low microphony, low noise, batch-to-batch consistency, small size, and low power consumption. They saw limited but notable use in studio equipment of the era, including the Ampex MR-70 tape recorder and the AKG/Norelco C12a and Neumann U47 studio microphones. The transistor's invention largely ended further development of nuvistors until Musical Fidelity created its first Nu-Vista series around fifteen years ago — a limited edition that sold out within months and now commands high secondhand prices.
Reviews
"This amplifier will drive anything! The amplifier has a latent power that feels prodigious, yet it's coupled with a smoothness that ensures listening to any flavour of music is a real pleasure. Depth and control was remarkable." — Mark Craven, Hi-Fi News, August 2023
"With its tight grip on the speakers' woofers, its sense of almost unlimited power, its superb soundstage definition, and – again – that sense of ease to its presentation, the Nu-Vista 800.2 gets an unreserved recommendation from this audio critic." — John Atkinson, Stereophile, December 2023
"The combination of excellent detail resolution, plus great rhythmic and dynamic drive, is pretty special. This amplifier promises much and almost over-delivers." — Chris Frankland, Stereonet, November 2023
"This was a strong and involving sound. The 800.2 is far more powerful than most integrated amps and most power amps in its price range – or any price range for that matter." — Phil Gold, Soundstage! Hi-Fi, October 2023
"Gloriously smooth and musical sound quality. More power on tap than you are ever going to need. A simply superb all-rounder!" — Chris Coft, Australian Hi-Fi, November 2023
"It delivered some of the most natural music I have experienced at home. The performance of these components is exemplary." — Chris Baillie, The Ear, April 2024
"The richness of color and the almost inimitable, gently delicate dramaturgy of power development make it unique. There is flow, charisma, flair, and verve without end." — Tom Frantzen, Stereo, August 2023
"It is for music lovers. For people who listen rather than believe. It plays in a league where very few others can compete." — Georg-Cölestin Jatta, Fidelity-Online, September 2025
"The Nu-Vista 800.2 behaves like a gentle giant. Subtle and dynamic – a combination of serenity and authority." — Ward Maas, HVT, September 2023
"The Nu-Vista cannot be beaten or provoked into aggression, it retains strength, precision and composure." — Editors, Audio, February 2024
"The 800.2 is a muscular, realistic and very direct amplifier. The clarity of the 800.2 is again dominant. This integrated is a 'hidden pearl' of the world of high-fidelity." — Miguel Marques, Audio & Cinema em Casa, February 2026
