Nd magnet technology

Often used in moving coil designs, including Rega's own, the Nd5 is believed to be the first moving magnet cartridge to use a Neodymium (Nd) N55 magnet, the world's most powerful commercially available magnet. This crucial component makes the unique design possible by delivering more power than standard bar-magnet designs.

Advanced generator and coils

The Nd5 uses brand-new generator geometry with perfect symmetry for accurate channel balance, and an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and cross-talk, providing a far wider soundstage than previous models. Miniaturised parallel coils are wound in house using 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns, producing a low-inductance, low-impedance generator for vastly improved high-frequency response.

Nude elliptical diamond stylus

The Nd5's stylus is a perfect elliptical nude diamond, a true ellipse created by an elliptical grinding process from polycrystalline manmade diamond, fitted to an aluminium cantilever. This nude profile provides exceptional tracking accuracy and extracts greater levels of detail from the vinyl surface than a bonded stylus. The complete assembly is housed in a zero-tolerance injection-moulded glass-filled polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) body, a lightweight, highly rigid material that reduces stress on the tonearm bearings and aids free movement, inspired by Rega's MC range. The Nd range is supplied in 100% recyclable packaging.

The Nd5 is offered as a factory-fitted option on the multi-award-winning Rega Planar 3 and Planar 6 turntables, designed specifically with these models in mind to extract the very best from your vinyl, at a discounted rate compared to buying separately. Rega's unique pivot pad design eliminates the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and the main body for improved tracking and stability, and if the cartridge is ever damaged or worn, it can be returned to a Rega dealer for a rebuild fitted with a new cantilever, stylus, and pivot pad, each fully tested as a new cartridge.
