Thorens TD1500 TP 150 Turntable: Classic Evolution at Vinyl Sound

NEW THORENS TURNTABLE TD 1500

In 1965, the inconspicuous little Thorens TD 150 turntable appeared on the market, initiating a technical revolution in turntable production. For the first time, a spring chassis with an inner tray driven by a straight belt was used in a series-produced model. The principle proved to be very successful and found many imitators in the following years. Like its famous predecessor, the new Thorens TD 1500, which will be used exclusively manually, also has a chassis that isolates the turntable and arm shelf from the motor and frame by means of three pointed springs. Unlike the TD 150, these springs can be adjusted from above through the corresponding holes in the tray, which makes it easier to set correctly. The speed of the DC motor is electronically controlled by an incremental encoder, and deviations, e.g. due to a broom, are automatically corrected. This also allows for very good speed fluctuation values. As a true unique selling point in its class, the TD 1500 features XLR outputs in addition to the usual pair of RCA connectors, allowing for true balanced operation with a suitable MC pickup.

NEW THORENS TONEARM TP 150

The new TP 150 tonearm is similar to the TP 124 tonearm used in the new TD 124 DD. It has an effective mass of 14 grams, is adjustable in height and azimuth and is equipped with a standard SME connection, so that changing the main console can be easily done or other cartridges can be installed. Anti-skating is adjusted by a movable weight in the arm base, which is set on a nylon thread guided by a ruby bearing. A high-quality and pre-tuned 2M Bronze pickup from Danish cartridge specialist Ortofon is also included as standard. This proves to be the perfect playing partner thanks to its bare diamond with a cutting Fine Line stylus.

Classic Thorens, Evolved.

The Thorens TD 1500 takes the breakthrough suspended-subchassis concept of the legendary original TD 150 and updates it into a modern, fully manual high-end platform. Available now at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada, this turntable is designed for pure analog performance and effortless everyday listening.

The Suspended Sub-Chassis, Perfected

At the core of the TD 1500 is a completely decoupled sub-chassis that isolates the platter and tonearm from the motor and plinth. Resting firmly on three conical springs, this system provides immense defense against external vibrations. Thorens has vastly improved the user experience by allowing simple top-side spring adjustment directly through access holes in the platter, ensuring quick and highly accurate setup without dismantling the deck.

Precision Speed and Drive Control

Rotational speed is tightly maintained via an electronically monitored DC motor equipped with an incremental encoder. This advanced system instantly corrects for minute deviations, keeping wow and flutter exceptionally low. Power is transferred via a precision machined belt to a substantial 1.4 kg, 22mm-thick die-cast aluminum platter, providing excellent flywheel mass for smooth playback.

TP 150 Tonearm & Ortofon 2M Bronze Cartridge

The turntable is equipped with the highly capable TP 150 tonearm. It offers full adjustability for both VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) and azimuth, allowing you to perfectly dial in your cartridge. It utilizes a standard SME connector for easy headshell swapping. Out of the box, the TD 1500 comes pre-fitted with the premium Ortofon 2M Bronze cartridge, featuring a Fine Line nude diamond for incredible detail retrieval.

Premium Balanced Connectivity

As a true standout in its class, the TD 1500 offers both true balanced (XLR) and standard unbalanced (RCA) outputs. This makes it incredibly easy to integrate the turntable into everything from traditional hi-fi setups to advanced, balanced-capable reference systems for an ultra-low noise floor.
