LIMITED INVENTORY
The Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution is a reference-class belt-drive turntable available at Vinyl Sound, an authorized Pro-Ject dealer in Toronto, Canada — currently in limited inventory. Sharing the same mass-loaded, magnetically suspended platform as the Xtension 12, the Xtension 10 delivers comparable performance in a more compact footprint by pairing a 10-inch tonearm with the same steel-pellet-filled plinth, TPE-damped sandwich platter, and inverted ceramic bearing. A DC-controlled AC synchronous motor with two-step pulley and electronic speed change covers 33, 45, and 78rpm. A balanced 5-pin DIN phono output supports full balanced operation, and the table ships with a DIN-to-RCA phono cable for immediate unbalanced use. Steel Pellets Inside the Plinth
The Xtension 10 Evolution uses a plinth that is more than it appears. Beyond medium-density fibre (MDF) construction — which absorbs resonance — the plinth contains a central gravity point filled with steel pellets. Resonance generated by the bearing, motor, and external environment is drawn toward this central point and dispersed by the pellets' distributed mass effect, where a solid alloy insert would instead create a single resonant frequency. This design also contributes meaningfully to the total mass of the table, reinforcing the inertial isolation of the platform as a whole.
True Balanced Output
The Xtension 10 Evolution is configured for balanced phono operation via its 5-pin DIN output. To run balanced you need: (a) a moving coil cartridge, (b) a phono stage with balanced inputs, and (c) a DIN-to-XLR or DIN-to-mini-XLR phono cable. In balanced mode, common-mode noise picked up along the cable run is cancelled at the phono stage input, lowering the noise floor and improving channel separation versus unbalanced RCA operation. The table ships with a DIN-to-RCA cable (1.23m) for out-of-box unbalanced use; balanced cables and phono stages are sold separately.
10cc EVO Tonearm and Upgrade Options
The Xtension 10 Evolution ships with the 10cc EVO, a 10-inch one-piece carbon-fiber tonearm with ABEC 7 quality inverted bearings and an integrated headshell formed from the same carbon-fiber tube — eliminating standing-wave problems at the headshell-to-armtube joint. Single-screw fixing of the armtube allows azimuth adjustment without tools. VTA is fully adjustable. The armboard accepts drop-in tonearm upgrades: the 10cc CA Premium adds a carbon/aluminum armtube, high-purity silver internal wiring, an upgraded stainless-steel bearing assembly, and a TPE-damped counterweight. The EVO AS and EVO AS Premium are curved alternatives with interchangeable headshells for cartridge collectors.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution and the Xtension 12 Evolution?
Both share the same mass-loaded, magnetically suspended platform with steel-pellet plinth filling, TPE-damped sandwich platter, and inverted bearing. The primary difference is tonearm length: the Xtension 10 uses a 10-inch arm (254mm effective length) while the Xtension 12 uses a 12-inch arm (309.5mm effective length). The longer arm reduces inner-groove geometric distortion but requires more space. The Xtension 10 also supports 78rpm playback. Both are available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada, with the Xtension 10 currently in limited inventory.
Does the Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution play 78rpm records?
Yes. The Xtension 10 Evolution supports 33, 45, and 78rpm via electronic speed change. To play 78rpm records you will also need a cartridge with a 78rpm stylus — standard LP styli will damage 78rpm shellac grooves. Contact Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada for 78rpm cartridge and stylus recommendations.
What cartridges work best with the Pro-Ject 10cc EVO tonearm?
The 10cc EVO has an effective mass of 8.5g, making it a medium-low mass arm. It pairs best with MC or MM cartridges of medium-to-high compliance (12–25µm/mN), such as those from Ortofon, Audio-Technica, Sumiko, or Goldring. Cartridge weight must fall between 4 and 14g (four counterweights are included). Browse cartridges at Vinyl Sound, or contact Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada for a pairing recommendation matched to your phono stage.
Which accessories would enhance listening on the Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution?
The Xtension 10 Evolution ships complete with a record clamp and DIN-to-RCA phono cable. The most impactful upgrade paths are: (1) a cartridge well matched to the 10cc EVO's 8.5g effective mass; (2) a DIN-to-XLR balanced phono cable to unlock the table's balanced output; and (3) a high-quality phono stage with adjustable MC loading. A tonearm upgrade to the 10cc CA Premium (carbon/aluminum tube, silver wiring, upgraded bearings) is also available as a drop-in. Contact Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada for a system-matched accessories recommendation.
What phono stage should I pair with the Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution?
The Xtension 10 Evolution's balanced DIN output and 73dB signal-to-noise ratio benefit from a phono stage with balanced XLR inputs, low noise floor, and adjustable MC loading. Browse phono preamplifiers at Vinyl Sound. Contact Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada to discuss phono stage pairing based on your cartridge and budget.
Can I upgrade the tonearm on the Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution?
Yes. The Xtension 10 Evolution's armboard accepts drop-in tonearm upgrades without soldering. The 10cc CA Premium is the primary step-up: it adds a carbon/aluminum armtube, high-purity silver internal wiring, stainless-steel bearing assembly, and a TPE-damped counterweight. The EVO AS and EVO AS Premium add interchangeable headshell compatibility for cartridge collectors. Contact Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada to confirm current upgrade availability.
