Frequently Asked Questions
Synergistic Research, founded by Ted Denney, has spent more than 30 years developing cables, power products, grounding devices, and system tuning accessories, using its UEF technology and proprietary conductor designs. The idea across the range is to lower noise and let more of the recording through, which on a resolving system many listeners hear as more detail and a bigger soundstage. At Vinyl Sound Canada in Toronto the line runs from affordable SR30 cables to flagship SRX XL and Galileo LUX, so there is an entry point at many budgets. We are glad to help you decide where to start.
The Synergistic Research collection at Vinyl Sound Canada is broad: power cords, interconnects, speaker cables, phono, USB, Ethernet, and digital cables, PowerCell line conditioners, Active Ground Blocks and grounding cables, network products like the Ethernet Switch UEF MkII, room acoustic treatments, isolation footers, tuning modules, and accessories like the Holographic Fuse. That lets you address cables, power, grounding, and the room from one brand. Tell us your system and goals and we will suggest where an upgrade will help most.
The cables step up in tiers, so you can match the spend to your system. At Vinyl Sound Canada the more accessible lines are SR30 and Foundation SX, the middle ground is Foundation XL and Atmosphere SX (Excite and Euphoria), and the references are Galileo LUX and SRX XL. Each tier shares the same design approach, so upgrades stay consistent in character. Share your components and budget and we will point you to the right line.
On a resolving system a well-built power cord can deliver cleaner, more stable current, which many listeners find improves dynamics and lowers noise, though results depend on the system and your mains. Synergistic Research power cords at Vinyl Sound Canada range from the SR30 and Foundation SX and XL up through the Atmosphere Excite and Euphoria SX and the reference Galileo LUX and SRX XL, plus the DC SX. High-current components like power amplifiers usually show the most benefit. We can match a cord to each component.
A power conditioner filters electrical noise and delivers cleaner, more stable power to your components, which can reveal detail and lower the noise floor, and it also gives you a tidy, protected hub. On a revealing system in a noisy supply the effect can be clear, while a simple system in a clean supply may benefit less. The PowerCell range at Vinyl Sound Canada runs from the PowerCell ONE and TWO up through the 8 SX, 12 SX, and 14 to the SRX PowerCell. Share your components and we will size one to your system.
An audio ground block gives your components a dedicated low-noise path to drain small amounts of stray electrical noise, which can lower the noise floor and clean up detail on a sensitive system. At Vinyl Sound Canada the options include the passive Ground Block, the Active Ground Block SX, and the Galileo SX Active Ground Block MkII, connected with Foundation or HD SX grounding cables. Because the benefit depends on your system and setup, it is worth hearing it in context. We can advise on the right grounding solution.
An upgraded fuse like the Synergistic Research Holographic Fuse replaces the stock fuse in a component's power input with a more carefully engineered part. Some listeners report a worthwhile improvement in clarity and ease, while others hear less, so it is one of the more system- and taste-dependent tweaks. It is an easy, reversible experiment on a resolving system. Vinyl Sound Canada can help you pick the correct rating and value for your component.
For streaming, network noise and timing can affect the sound reaching your DAC, and a purpose-built switch aims to reduce that noise for a cleaner result. Many streaming listeners find an audible improvement, though it varies by system and setup. At Vinyl Sound Canada the Synergistic Research Ethernet Switch UEF MkII and Network Router UEF target exactly this, alongside the UEF Performance Enhancer Ethernet. If you stream on a revealing system, ask us whether these are a good fit.
For a turntable you want a proper shielded phono cable, and Vinyl Sound Canada offers Synergistic Research phono cables across the Foundation SX and XL, Atmosphere Excite and Euphoria SX, Galileo LUX, and SRX XL tiers. For a USB source, the same families offer USB cables from Foundation up to the reference lines. Matching the tier to the rest of your system keeps the character consistent. Tell us your turntable, phono stage, or DAC and we will recommend the right cable.
Your room has a real effect on what you hear, so treating reflections and resonances can be one of the most audible upgrades available. Synergistic Research takes a tuning approach at Vinyl Sound Canada with products like the HFT High Frequency Transducers, UEF Acoustic Dots, Vibratron SX, Black Box Carbon, and FEQ Carbon, which are placed around the room to shape the sound. Because placement matters and results vary by room, these reward careful setup. We can guide you on where to start.
Cable elevators lift cables off the floor to reduce static and mechanical interaction, and isolation footers decouple components or speakers from vibration, both aimed at a cleaner, more settled sound. At Vinyl Sound Canada the Synergistic Research options include the Carbon Performance Cable Elevators and the MiG isolation footers. These are fine-tuning steps rather than essentials, and their benefit varies by system, so they are best added once the core system is set. We can advise whether they suit your setup.
UEF, or Uniform Energy Field, is the core technology Synergistic Research applies across its cables, power products, grounding, and tuning devices, aimed at lowering noise and improving how energy moves through your system for a cleaner, more natural sound. You will see it referenced throughout the range at Vinyl Sound Canada, from cables to the Active Ground Blocks and network products. Ask us how it carries across the specific products you are considering.
