KLH Model Four 3-Way Acoustic Suspension Floorstanding Speaker (Each)

Say hello to Model Four, KLH's smallest three-way loudspeaker ever, offering Model Five DNA in a compact package. If you love the Model Five but worry it might be too big for your space, the Model Four is the answer. It uses the same dedicated 4-inch midrange and 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter as the Model Five and the same punchy, articulate 8-inch woofer as the Model Three, blending exceptional full-range sound with timeless mid-century modern design in a surprisingly small footprint. Sold individually. Available now at Vinyl Sound Canada.

Sealed acoustic suspension design

Most speakers use a port, a hole that lets air escape, but ported designs often perform poorly next to walls, in corners, or in small spaces. The Model Four is a sealed speaker with no ports, helping it sound incredible wherever you place it. This acoustic suspension approach, pioneered by KLH co-founder Henry Kloss 70 years ago, is the most accurate and linear enclosure design available, delivering deep, controlled bass down to 46Hz.

A true three-way for full-range sound

Model Four uses three drivers to reproduce the full musical spectrum. An 8-inch pulp-paper woofer delivers deep, punchy bass; a dedicated 4-inch pulp-paper midrange perfectly reproduces voices and instruments; and a 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter makes high notes sparkle with clarity. Most speakers this size skip the midrange and force the woofer and tweeter to cover everything; Model Four does not make that compromise. A three-position Acoustic Balance Control on the rear trims the mids and highs by 1.5 or 3dB to suit bright, hard-surfaced or soft, carpeted rooms.

Mid-century craftsmanship

Model Four pays homage to KLH's 1950s heritage with real wood veneers, period-inspired details, and a signature wide, shallow baffle that keeps more of the music in front of you. Choose from English Walnut, White Oak, or Black Ash finishes, each with a matching magnetic cloth grille. An included 6-degree matte-black powder-coated steel riser base lifts each speaker to the ideal listening height and angle, completing the classic silhouette. At just 13 inches wide and 8.25 inches deep, it delivers true floorstanding presence without demanding a floor plan built around it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the KLH Model Four?
The KLH Model Four is KLH's smallest three-way floorstanding loudspeaker, using a sealed acoustic suspension design with an 8-inch woofer, a dedicated 4-inch midrange, and a 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter. It brings the sound of the larger Model Five into a compact 13-inch-wide, 8.25-inch-deep cabinet with mid-century modern styling and an included slanted riser base. It is sold individually, so order two for a stereo pair.

Is the Model Four sold as a pair or individually?
The Model Four is sold individually (each). For a stereo system you will need two, one for the left and one for the right channel.

What is acoustic suspension and why is the Model Four sealed?
Acoustic suspension is a sealed enclosure design with no ports, pioneered by KLH co-founder Henry Kloss. Because there is no port, the speaker performs well even close to walls, in corners, or in small rooms, where ported speakers can sound boomy or uneven, giving tight, controlled bass down to 46Hz wherever you place it.

What is the Acoustic Balance Control?
The Acoustic Balance Control is a KLH original: a three-position rotary switch on the rear that trims the midrange and treble by 1.5 or 3dB. This lets you tune the Model Four to sound its best in a bright, hard-surfaced room or a soft, heavily furnished one.

What amplifier does the Model Four need?
With 88dB in-room sensitivity and a 6-ohm impedance, the Model Four is easy to drive and pairs comfortably with amplifiers from 30 to 150 watts. Vinyl Sound Canada can recommend a matching amplifier or receiver for your room.

How does the Model Four compare to the Model Three and Model Five?
The Model Four shares the 8-inch woofer of the bookshelf Model Three and the 4-inch midrange and 1-inch tweeter of the floorstanding Model Five, in a compact floorstander. Step up to the Model Five for a larger 10-inch woofer and higher sensitivity, or the flagship Model Seven for a 13-inch woofer, if you have more space and power.
