Musical Fidelity BPC10 Power Conditioner

The power supplied to every device in your system contributes to sonic quality just as much as your amplifiers, DACs, and sources. Musical Fidelity's BPC (Balanced Power Conditioner) series is designed to improve on that power. BPC10 is the flagship of the range, typically used for larger Hi-Fi or home theater systems — multiple amplifiers up to 1550W combined, digital and analogue sources, a projector, and subwoofers. It offers 6 power outlets split into 3 isolated power zones (two 200VA zones and one 1550VA zone), so you can isolate devices with switch-mode power supplies from devices with linear power supplies for maximum performance. Separating modern digital sources from analogue sources like phono preamps or turntables reduces interference between them. Musical Fidelity states the result is cleaner power, more dynamics, and a larger soundstage. Sits above the BPC5 at the top of the range. As an authorized Musical Fidelity dealer in Toronto, Canada, Vinyl Sound can help you plan a power conditioning setup for your system.

Key Features

  • 6 power outlets across 3 isolated power zones (2x 200VA, 1x 1550VA)
  • Powers multiple amplifiers up to 1550W combined, plus source components
  • Suited to home theater setups with a projector and subwoofers
  • Super-silent, low-noise balanced toroidal isolating power transformer
  • RFI attenuation greater than 57dB @ 235kHz, greater than 40dB up to 1MHz
  • Series-mode surge suppression and DC blocker (≥2V), designed to avoid raising ground voltage
  • Over-voltage and under-voltage protection
  • Overload protection with resettable No-Fuse-Breaker
  • Front panel status LEDs (green = normal operation, red = check input voltage)
  • Massive aluminium front plate and heavy steel case

Three Isolated Power Zones

BPC10 splits its output into two 200VA zones and one 1550VA zone to avoid differential-mode cross-contamination between connected electronics. Musical Fidelity recommends connecting devices with switch-mode power supplies to one zone and devices with linear power supplies to another, and the large 1550VA zone is sized to power multiple amplifiers, a projector, or subwoofers in a full home theater or large Hi-Fi system. A power strip can be added to any zone as long as its combined output doesn't exceed that zone's rating.

Toroidal Transformer

BPC10 uses a toroidal transformer, wound from a continuous strip of grain-oriented silicon steel with no air gap, typically reaching around 90% efficiency versus a standard EI transformer. Musical Fidelity states this design radiates roughly one-tenth the magnetic field of an EI transformer and, combined with Common Mode Rejection, helps eliminate noise for cleaner power delivery.

Surge and Overload Protection

BPC10 uses series-mode surge suppression rather than the more common shunt-mode design, which shunts excess voltage to ground and can raise ground voltage enough to contaminate audio and video signals. Musical Fidelity's design absorbs surges more than 2V above peak line voltage without affecting ground. If the unit detects an overload, its No-Fuse-Breaker switches to protection mode and can be manually reset once the overload is resolved; under-voltage and over-voltage protection are also built in, with front-panel LEDs showing current status.

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment should I connect to this?
BPC10 can power multiple amplifiers up to 1550W combined in its larger zone, plus source components, a projector, or subwoofers across the two smaller 200VA zones — sized for a larger Hi-Fi system or small home theater setup.

How does this compare to the BPC5?
BPC5 offers 2 zones (200VA and 800VA) for one amplifier up to 800W. BPC10 steps up to 3 zones with a 1550VA main zone, 6 outlets total, and support for multiple amplifiers, projectors, and subwoofers.

Can I connect a power strip to add more outlets?
Yes, as long as the combined output of everything plugged into that zone doesn't exceed the zone's rating (200VA or 1550VA).
